Great River Development Supports the
Cassville Public Docks Project
In 2013, the Cassville Car Cruise Club (a registered 501c3 charitable organization) embarked on a community improvement project to create public transient boat docking along Riverside Park and the Mississippi River. Construction, and subsequent expansion, was completed by the 2014 boating season. Club members, and other community volunteers, donated their time and talents during the construction process, while private donations raised the necessary capital to complete the project without the use of taxpayer dollars. In all, over $40,000 was raised to construct the docks, improve the shoreline, and erect signage that welcome boating travelers to stop and enjoy the park and surrounding community.
Great River Sportsman, and its parent company Great River Development LLC, were happy to contribute over $15,000 to this vital community project. Since its completion, the docks have seen visitors arrive from Dubuque, Galena, Prairie Du Chien, and LaCrosse, with others stopping by from as far away as the Twin Cities of Minneapolis & St Paul, Minnesota. The "Cassville Public Docks" are a great example of community pride and involvement, while encouraging travelers to more fully explore the beauty, history, and charm of the area.
Outdoor Basketball Court / Riverside Park 2013
In order to make way for the construction of the Cassville Public Docks and the Riverside Park River Walk, the old village tennis courts had to be removed. The courts had fallen into disrepair (which had been converted into a "makeshift" basketball court).
As with the Public Docks, the Cassville Car Club members, and other community volunteers, donated their time and talents during the demolition and construction of a new basketball court, while private donations raised the necessary capital to complete the project without use of taxpayer dollars. In all, over $5,000 was raised to construct the new court.
Great River Sportsman, and its parent company Great River Development LLC, were happy to contribute over $2,500 to help ensure that recreational opportunities for the youth of this community were both available and improved.
Cassville Public Fishing Dock
It has been a few years since Cassville has had a public fishing dock in Riverside Park. That will change with the addition of a new "floating" platform dock in the spring of 2016 (weather permitting). The new dock will be approximately 300 square feet in size, and will be attached to a walking ramp leading up, and connecting to, the Riverside Riverwalk. The fishing dock will be conveniently located near the center of the park, between the public restrooms and picnic pavilion.
Great River Sportsman will be donating over $10,000 toward the purchase of the dock components, while the Cassville Park Preservation Committee lines up funding for the walk ramp to the dock, along with various shoreline improvements.
The addition of the Public Fishing Dock is yet another example of a community looking to the future by promoting tourism and the recreational value of the area.
Great River Sportsman encourages charitable giving through our many customers.
2015 Fundraising Goal
We provide free gourmet coffee, and hot chocolate to anyone who stops by our store. Those who wish to provide a "free-will" donation are greatly appreciated.
We also collect "free-will" donations during in-store events such as sales, seminars, and our Grand Opening Celebration. All donations are then given to local charities and civic organizations to help others in need and other worthy community goals.
The coffee is always free, but your kindness & generosity is always appreciated!
Cassville River Walk...And Beyond?
The Cassville River Walk is an ambitious project lead by the Cassville Car Cruise Club, with involvement from many local business leaders and private citizens. There are three phases associated with the construction of walk (which follows the shoreline of the Mississippi River).
The first phase is to complete the walk through Riverside Park (approximately 1/2 mile). This portion of the walk will be lighted, and accommodate both pedestrian and bicycle traffic between the Cassville Ferry Landing on the north end by the park, to the boat launch landing on the south (down river) end. This portion of the walk is being constructed solely by private donations, these donor/sponsors receive an in-concrete embossed stencil which the sponsor can have a dedication for their contribution(s). The walkway lights are also sponsored by donations and receive an engraved plaque affixed to the base of each light.
The second phase of the project will be to extend the walk north approximately two miles to the Stonefield Village State Historic Site & Nelson Dewey State Park, and the US Fish Wildlife Refuge located approximately two miles to the south. Funding for this portion of the project will be obtained through various government, corporate, and private grants.
The final phase will see the leaders of the Cassville community working with other community leaders in both Wisconsin and Iowa to develop a series of interconnected trails, paths, and walkways to join communities, while offering greater opportunities to explore our collective natural heritage for our citizens and visitors.
Great River Sportsman is proud to provide support and assistance to this ambitious, and worthy, endeavor!
